The Return of Jonathan Glazer: Under the Skin

Since 2000, cinema has had a gift in Jonathan Glazer. Music video director extraordinaire for bands such as UNKLE, Radiohead, Massive Attack, and Blur, he hit the scene running with Sexy Beast and rewrote the rule book with his astounding Birth. But that was a long time ago, and while he’s kept to the grind with music videos and commercials, there has not been a big feature outing until this year. Premiering a few days ago at Telluride, Under the Skin stars Scarlett Johansson as an alien seductress who starts to consider that which she does. Or, according to the page’s IMDb description:  “An alien in human form is on a journey through Scotland.”

It’s Glazer’s first outing in the sci-fi realm, and with the first trailer it looks to be an absolutely stunning experience, as well as his best work to date. No word yet on an official release, but most likely it will be 2014 and already that makes for a good year at the movie house. Take a look.
