Watch and Listen

Films are a tricky thing. In review we look at the whole over the moments, and yet there are great films with even greater moments and to look over them for the whole accounts for a great loss of experience. This week, as we head toward fall and the general concession of awards season production, let’s look at some moments of greatness buried within films (both good and bad).
This week’s topic: shorts within features
1. Birth – Opening Prologue
2. Charlie Wilson’s War – Hoffman
3. Hunger – Priest Conversation
Pt. 1
Pt. 2
4. Mulholland Drive – Llorando
5. Hanna – One-Take Fight Sequence
Two of my favorite single takes: Hanna and Hunger. Great finds. One of my other favorites, which on the surface plays fairly melodramatic but is a damned technical feat: Atonement’s, like, nine minute tracking shot. Joe Wright likes them long shots.
