Riot Fest, Sunday the 15th – Chicago 2013

Sunday started out with Bob Mould, one-third of Husker Du, one of the most influential bands to come out of the Minneapolis punk scene. The other significant band being headliners the Replacements.
In case you missed out on the gossip, Riot Fest started a rumor that Jesse and the Rippers (of Full House fame) were going to reunite at Riot Fest this year. The reunion occurred on Jimmy Fallon’s show, leaving Riot Fest with a butter bust of the that infamous head of hair (have mercy!).
The weather was shit. The only way to fight cold rain is lots of beer and a cheap poncho.
San Diego’s Rocket from the Crypt warmed us up with some sweet jams and cute outfits.
N.D. (Andy) gets bonus points for playing injured.
All ball games were cancelled due to rain and rioting.
Number one rule: drink beer. Second rule: wear a poncho. Third rule: hide under a tilt-a-whirl.
Jam on.
Brand New playing a hard rocking set.
These two are following all three rules. Good girls.
AFI knows how to play it up for the cameras.
Mr. Black Francis of the Pixies.
Kim Shattuck sat in for Kim Deal.
I wish I had better photos of the Replacements. But my shitty camera couldn’t contain the bolts of energy jumping all over the stage.
They huddled up between songs, figuring the set out as they went.
They last played together in Chicago on the 4th of July in 1991. So it seems appropriate that Chicago-based Riot Fest was able to get this group back on stage for a bad ass headlining set. The king is dead! Long live the king!
