Riot Fest and Carnival (Chicago, 2012)

Riot Fest and Carnival was located at Humboldt Park, a few blocks from where I live, so I decided to check it out.  It sounded fun.

Fishbone have been playing their own unique blend of punk/funk since the 80s.  They’ve always done it their way and still have it after all these years.

The Promise Ring, from my hometown of Milwaukee, Wi, made the trip to Chicago to play a bad-ass set.  The band filled the alternative press magazines when I was in high school.  This was my first show of theirs in about fifteen years.  A pretty cool experience.

A beautiful day in Humboldt Park

Fun and games for all…

I’ve heard that Built to Spill could be hit or miss live.  Well, they were spot on, playing one of the day’s best sets.

All sorts of fun at Riot Fest

Mohawks and tattoos are important.

Local heroes White Mystery.

Wrasslin’ in the park.

Elvis Costello & the Imposters

Rides and games at night have a special beauty, something totally American and slightly troublesome.  Everyone was a bit drunk that night, and I got to watch some asshole pick on a carnie.  The drunk asshole rubbed his teeth, as a way of making fun of the dentally-challenged carnie, as his girlfriend argued about the size of her prize.  The asshole’s prick friend went around throwing darts at balloons and grabbing his crotch.
